About Berkana

To The Design Team Space






The Berkana Institute is a global foundation supporting life-affirming leaders around the world. We define a leader as anyone who wants to help. Since 1992, Berkana has worked with people everywhere to discover new organizational forms, processes, and leadership that affirm rather than destroy life. We use an understanding of living systems to organize in ways that are interdependent, generous, and self-organizing.

We have created NewWorkSpaces to support communities of leaders who want to work and learn effectively with each other, regardless of where they live on the planet.

Our Vision

Berkana serves the vision of a world where people experience themselves as whole, healthy, sacred and free. We contribute to this world vision by focusing on life-affirming leadership.

Our Purpose

Berkana supports local leaders around the world who work to liberate the capacity for human goodness that is common to all people. We define a leader as anyone who wants to help at this time.

Our Beliefs
We believe many people in all places are being called to help, to be leaders.

We trust that people want to learn how to live together in ways that sustain humans and all life.

We believe that humans are at a critical choice point--our very survival depends on how we choose to live together now on this planet.

We believe that life (living systems) is the best teacher for how to organize, change, and create. Our work is based on an in-depth understanding of living systems.

We believe that people thrive in relationships. We experience connecting with the global family as joyful.
