Berkana believes that a leader is "anyone who wants to help." We believe that leadership exists in abundance in the world today. But if that belief is true, why does leadership seem so scarce? Why does it often seem that many of our communities and organizations are simply slogging ahead, becoming more tired, more broke, more bereft of a sense of possibility?
In part, we think this lassitude occurs because leaders are isolated, operating under immense pressure with minimal time and resources, and with a dwindling sense of the possible as they simply struggle to keep from going under. Too many pioneering leaders have lost both the capacity and the time to be connected to each other. This isolation makes the work of leaders far more difficult, if not impossible. Connection, relationship, colleagueship are critical.
Mindful of this condition, Berkana created NewWorkSpaces with three types of users in mind:
Participants in the many initiatives Berkana is engaged with in the world.
Nonprofit organizations and foundations who wish to make use of services to increase their effectiveness by using Berkanas leaders in community model.
People who want to learn more about Berkanas methodologies for collaboration and learning.
