Conversation Tools

NewWorkSpaces has many tools that help you make the most of your online conversations. Some tools you'll want to know about right away include: Searching for Entries, Inviting People Into Conversations, and Participating in Conversations Via E-mail

Search in NewWorkSpaces is simple, and powerful. Simply enter a word, or a string of words in the Search box that you will always find near the upper right hand corner of your screen.

You can use the drop down menu to have it search for ALL of your words (the default), or for ANY of the words. All NewWorkSpaces will be searched and a page of search results will be displayed.

You can simply click on any of the links and go to the page where the words you searched for were found.

Sending E-mail Notices is one way to call people's attention back into a conversation. We all have busy lives these days. Until using NewWorkSpaces becomes a daily habit, and until members of your community have become really comfortable in the environment, it is sometimes good to use e-mail as a way to call a community back together. You can send e-mail notices from a number of places in NewWorkSpaces, including Conversations. Locate the Participate Box on the left hand side.

Click on "E-mail this Page". When you do so, a new window will open.

This window gives access to all the people who are currently using NewWorkSpaces including members of your group or community, as well as others using this collaboration and learning environment.

If there are just several people you want to e-mail the notice to, and you know their e-mail addresses, you can simply click "Next", at the bottom of the window, at any time.

To select members of your community or group, simply pull down the menu opposite "All members". You'll find your community name:

Select your community's name from the menu, and click the Find button in the window. The list that appears will be just your community members. Go through and select those members you wish to receive your notice. Then, click on "Add to list" at the bottom of the page. Their names will now appear in a box to the left. Click the "Next" button and you will see this window.

Simply add add any additional recipients, write a personal message telling people what, specifically you want them to checkout and why, and click on the submit button. All the people you send this e-mail to will receive your message and a link that takes them directly to the page you sent from.

Participating Via E-mail is easy. From the Conversation Page, below each discussion, you will see a link on the right.

When you click on this link, a new window opens up.

 

Subscribe to the discussion, and indicate how frequently you wish to receive digests. You'll receive them at the e-mail address in your profile. And, they will include directions for how to respond to the discussion via e-mail.
