 | | | | | | Most of us can tell stories of inspired solutions to difficult problems that appeared in the middle of the night, or at other times when they were least expected. More commonly, however, the new knowledge is created when people with shared interests, passions and aspirations come together knowing that the challenges they face will not be solved by continuing to do things in the old way. They come together purposefully to invent new knowledge because of three forces: a recognition that the current ways of thinking, acting and interacting are inadequate in the face of new challenges; a belief in the possibility that new theory and practice will produce better results; and, a commitment to hard work that it takes to surface and integrate novel ideas into a new system of knowledge. Here in the Invent Space, a system of knowledge is defined as an expression of theory, principles, and practices that guides new ways of thinking and acting in a particular field of inquiry. To develop this new knowledge system, the community moves from recognizing difference or novelty in ideas and concepts, to seeing their sameness or patterns, and to forming interrelationships among the patterns. From this integration of novel ideas, your community will then be able to express unique theory, guiding principles, and practices that can be used to make a difference in your field. Here, your community will integrate novel ideas, pose a theory, create guiding principles, and develop practices. | | | | | |
