NewWorkSpaces allows people to enter into deep, reflective conversations with each other. When communities are just forming, their Design Team will usually start the conversation and invite members in. Check the Related Tips below for how you can start a conversation yourself. When you login to NewWorkSpaces, you'll be taken directly to your community's home page in the environment. Near the top of the page, you'll see three navigation links, called About, Knowledge and Discussions: The About section is what opens when you first login to the environment. This space is basically a message area where your Design Team or Coach can direct your attention to important things happening in the community. Next click on the Conversations tab. A new window opens up like this: Here you'll see a list of discussions that have already been started. Information immediately available includes the number of responses already made in the discussion, the title, and the first couple of lines, and who started the discussion. Click on the Title of the discussion. The title is the hot link at the beginning of the Topic section. You'll enter the discussion, where you can view all the comments made so far. Near the top of the discussion you'll see a place where you can sort the way you view comments: . | | Normally you'll want to select Sort Messages Threaded WITH Indentation to be able to read from the first comments to the last. After all the comments, you'll find an area where you can share your thoughts about the current discussion. Type in your message as you normally would with a word processor. If you want to share an attachment as part of the discussion, click on the Browse button to upload it from your computer. When you are all done, click on the button and you've entered your comments. After you click on submit, the webpage will reset and you can see your entry in this conversation. If you are done here, then go back up to your home page in NewWorkSpaces.. You'll see a link in the upper left hand part of your screen that looks like this: Or you can follow the "Bread Crumbs" in the top left hand portion of the screen to go back to the Open Conversation area, or all the way back to your Home Page (which is NWS: Example in this presentation).: . | Starting a new conversation | | One special kind of discussion is one you create in your My Work Space. This is for conversations with you at the center! | | You can do lots of other things in online conversations-- attach documents to the discussion or search for an entry you recall, but can't find. You can "bookmark" conversations most important to you, you can send an e-mail notice to people in your community asking them to check-in. You can even participate in a conversation via e-mail. | |
